Training and Education
Through several external courses and programs, CGHE provides training for personnel within the Department of Defense (DoD) Global Health Engagement (GHE) enterprise as well as interagency and international partners to promote greater understanding of DoD GHE. CGHE also supports various education and training activities within the Uniformed Services University (USU).
Fundamentals Of Global Health Engagement
The Fundamentals of Global Health Engagement I (FOGHE I) course is a three-day awareness-level course designed to prepare Military Health System professionals to better conduct GHE activities. The Fundamentals of Global Health Engagement II (FOGHE II) course is two-day global health engagement training course meant to be delivered in conjunction with FOGHE I. This course targets Senior GHE leaders and planners at the Combatant Command or Service Component level to provide them with a fundamental understanding of how to employ GHE as a security cooperation tool.
Global health strategies for security
The Global Health Strategies for Security (GHSS) course, held annually each spring in the Washington, DC metro area, is a one-week course designed to develop an in-depth understanding of DoD GHE, outline civil and military considerations at the nexus of global health and security, and foster a whole-of-government approach to strengthening U.S. Government (USG) global health activities. Attendees include representatives from Combatant Commands, Services, USG interagency, and partner nations.

CGHE also supports USU faculty and students through varied activities, from teaching global health courses to supporting USU’s premier medical field practicum, Operation Bushmaster, through the provision of subject matter experts and the planning and execution of a simulated Global Health Engagement. The Center also supports the Military Medical Humanitarian Assistance Course (MMHAC), a two-day course taught at eight sites nationwide. MMHAC provides health care professionals with the tools and skills needed to manage vulnerable patient populations, especially infants and children, in austere disaster and crisis situations.
